Music for Schools
Our Music for Schools instrument lending library allows students who
cannot afford the opportunity to participate in their school’s band or
orchestra program the opportunity to do so. Working directly with schools
and teachers, the instruments are loaned for the entire school year,
completely free of charge.
Since its inception in 2000, the lending library has grown from a small
collection of core band instruments to more than 1,000 instruments of all
types through the generous community support.
“My program would not be as good or complete
without the opportunity to borrow Music for

Mariachi Ensemble
Luther Burbank Center’s Mariachi Ensemble program expands upon
the skills taught to participants in LBC’s Mariachi Summer Camp. This
free, audition-only afterschool program allows students to attend weekly
rehearsals, participate in community performances, while providing
instruments for student use. Classes cover music theory, stage presence,
vocal and musical technique, and mariachi history and culture. Along with the
performing Ensemble, we offer beginning and intermediate-level skills classes.
“Every new thing they learn in mariachi motivates
them to be better people and they try to improve
every day. It is very motivating for them.”
Teachers Experiencing Arts Meet-Up (TEAM)
Teachers Experiencing Arts Meet-Up (TEAM) serves as a teacher’s night
out while also introducing educators to aspects of the Center’s programming
they may not have formerly experienced. Each event focuses around an arts
activity tied to offerings of the Education Through the Arts program. We hope
you will join us at these events to help shape our programs to better serve
you and your students.

Let’s Be Creative! with LBC
The Let’s Be Creative virtual initiative offers weekly arts videos and
tutorials curated by LBC and delivered online via the LBC Facebook and
YouTube pages so that students of all ages (and their families) are able to
learn and participate from home. This initiative includes dance classes,
instrument care tutorials, visual art projects, music challenges, literature-

complex history of our nation. From gospel to blues, jazz to
R&B, America has produced some of the most innovative music
of the 20th century. Although the songs are easy on the ears,
their inception occurred in cultural climates that were often
discordant. This musical chronicle shows that despite conflict
and misunderstanding, we are still brilliantly creative and
resilient.
Adapting History was created in collaboration with and commissioned by Montalvo

Told through movement, music, and narration, an ensemble of

flight. When a child has an idea, they don’t know what to do with
it. At first, they attempt to hide it away, but when the idea gets
stronger so does the child’s confidence, leading up to the day
something amazing happens. Based on the New York Times best

had an idea that seemed a little too big, too odd, or too difficult.
