TODAY IS...
  • NATIONAL PET DAY -- Consider adopting a shelter animal and giving it a loving
home. If you’ve already got a pet…you may resume totally spoiling your fur baby.

  • NATIONAL ‘TEACH CHILDREN TO SAVE’ DAY -- Take your kids to a participating
bank where volunteers will teach them how to save and manage their money and use
credit to help build their wealth.

  • INTERNATIONAL ‘LOUIE-LOUIE’ DAY -- Celebrating one of the most recorded songs
in the history of rock. Today is the birthday of Richard Berry, who wrote the song in 1955
and performed the original. Since then, “Louie Louie” has been covered more than 2-
thousand times (including versions by: The Kingsmen, Paul Revere & the Raiders, John
Lennon, Led Zeppelin, the Grateful Dead, Billy Joel, and The Smashing Pumpkins)
FUN FACT: Back in the late 70s, “Louie Louie" almost became the official song of
Washington State when, for no reason at all, a bunch of people petitioned to have the
      song replace "Washington, My Home.”

  • NATIONAL 8-TRACK TAPE DAY -- 8-track tapes were popular in the 60s and 70s, but
there’s a good reason why they failed: they were big and clumsy, you couldn’t rewind
them and the tape would often jam. The 8-track was invented by William Lear, the same
guy who designed the LearJet. DID YOU KNOW? Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Greatest Hits’ was
the last album to be commercially released on 8-Track.

  • NATIONAL BARBER SHOP QUARTET DAY -- Because who doesn’t love watching 4
grown men in matching striped shirts harmonize an ‘a cappella’ rendition of “Oops, I Did
      it Again!”
HERE’S THE MAIN STREET BARBER SHOP QUARTET’S RENDITION OF ‘OOPS’
      AND ‘BYE BYE BYE’
• NATIONAL POUTINE DAY -- Invented by our Canadian neighbors, Poutine (poo-TEEN)
is a sloppy mess of French fries, cheese and gravy all mixed together in a bowl. It might
look kinda gross but there’s a reason why they all go crazy for it up north.
       POUTINE FUN FACTS:
          • It was invented in 1957 when a trucker stopped at a diner in Quebec and asked for
              cheese curds on his fries.
          • The word ‘poutine’ is Quebec slang for ‘a mess.’
          • A serving of poutine has about 14-hundred calories. The average person would
have to jog for 2-and-a-half hours to burn that off.

   • CMT MUSIC AWARDS (8PM ET - CBS) -- Tonight, it’s the CMT Music Awards on CBS,
LIVE from Nashville; country music's only entirely fan-voted awards show. This year, it’s
hosted by Anthony Mackie and Kelsea Ballerini, who’s also nominated for 3
awards. Kane Brown leads all the nominations with 4.

CRISIS IN UKRAINE
RUSSIA CALLING IN RETIRED TROOPS (00:24)
Things are getting so bad for Russian troops that they’re bringing in backup. According to the
UK Ministry of Defence, the Russians are calling up retired military personnel. On Friday a
spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted that Russia has suffered “significant
losses of troops” and that it was a “huge tragedy.” NATO intelligence officials predict that more
than 40-thousand Russian soldiers have been killed since the war started.

JULIAN LENNON PERFORMS “IMAGINE” FOR FIRST TIME FOR UKRAINIAN REFUGEES
(00:27)
Musician Julian Lennon sang “Imagine” at a benefit for Ukrainian refugees on Saturday, years
after vowing he would never perform his father’s most iconic solo song. Lennon’s performance
also features Extreme’s Nuno Betancourt on guitar and harmonies. The first-born son of the late
John Lennon, who sounds very much like Dad, said that even though he swore to never perform
“Imagine,” he felt the war in Ukraine is an “unimaginable tragedy” and he wanted to respond in
the most significant way.

JENNIFER LOPEZ AND BEN AFFLECK ENGAGED…AGAIN (00:24)
Twenty years after their first engagement, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are doing it again.
JLo shared the news Friday night and showed off her 8-and-a-half carat green diamond
engagement ring. Apparently green is Lopez’s lucky color. The second time around seems to be
the charm for the lovebirds, who first got engaged in 2002 before breaking up in 2004. This will
be the fourth marriage for Lopez and the second for Affleck.

WILL SMITH AND CHRIS ROCK: MORE FALLOUT (00:27)
Last week Will Smith resigned from the Motion Picture Academy after infamously slapping Chris
Rock on stage during the Oscars. On Friday, Smith got more bad news. He’s been banned from
attending any Academy events for the next 10 years, which he publicly accepted. They did not
take away his Oscar or prevent him from future nominations. Meanwhile Rock remains silent on
the incident, but reportedly told a California audience Friday night that he’ll talk about it after he
gets paid. Ouch.

FAA SEEKING TO HIT UNRULY PASSENGERS WITH LARGEST FINES EVER (00:30)
Two of last summer’s unruly airplane passengers may get hit with the largest fines ever doled
out by the Federal Aviation Administration -- $81-thousand-950 dollars and $77-thousand-272-
dollars. (What, they couldn’t round up?) One of the badly-behaved passengers hit a flight
attendant, tried to open a cabin door, and headbutted and kicked crew members. The other one
tried to open a cabin door and repeatedly bit another passenger. So far this year the FAA says
there have been more than a thousand reports of unruly passengers.

LAW & DISORDER
GUY WHO SHOT LADY GAGA’S DOGWALKER ACCIDENTALLY FREED (00:22)
The guy who shot Lady Gaga’s dog walker was mistakenly freed from prison, oops. Nineteen-
year old James Howard Jackson is now on the lam thanks to a clerical error. Jackson shot Ryan
Fischer last year while trying to steal Lady Gaga’s French bulldogs. He was arrested and
charged with attempted murder. Fischer says he’s concerned about the accidental release but
knows the LAPD will come through.

WOULD-BE ASSASSIN JOHN HINCKLEY TO PERFORM IN CONCERT (00:25)
Would you go to a concert by John Hinckley? The would-be assassin who tried to kill President
Reagan in 1981 announced that he’ll be performing at a hotel in Brooklyn this summer.
Apparently, Hinckley’s always wanted to be in the music business so he started a YouTube
account that features him singing original songs and covers. He also plans to start his own
record label. OK, then. Hinckley spent 35 years in prison for his attempt to kill the President.

artificial steak on the International Space Station. The Israeli company behind the world’s first
3D printed steak is sending three amateur astronauts into space to experiment with beef cells
that will grow in microgravity and turn into muscle tissue found in steaks. The ultimate goal is to
have steaks to serve future space travelers and to develop low-cost beef here on Earth.

PRIVATE VS. PUBLIC COLLEGES AND MENTAL HEALTH (00:20)
Will going to a private college make you a happier person? Not really. According to a new UK
study, private college students are no happier than those who went to public schools. The
researchers found that even though private schools may have better resources, it makes no
difference in a student’s mental health upon graduation. The only difference is the price you
paid for tuition.

BABY FORMULA IN SHORT SUPPLY (00:25)
You can add baby formula to the list of hard-to-find products due to supply chain issues. New
parents are struggling to stock up and some retailers are starting to limit purchases. That’s
tough when it’s all your baby can have the first six months. In nearly half the country, 30-percent
of formula was out of stock as of mid-March while some states are experiencing shortages as
high as 54-percent. Last year at this time, shortages were between two and eight percent.
