2From our General Manager
It is a pleasure to join ANCAD as the new General Manager. I hope to build
on the strong legacy of community development and capability that has
been so well supported by community organisations across Auckland
and by the generosity of our funders. The delivery of ANCAD’s services is
carried out by our small, but dedicated, staff team. ANCAD’s experienced
Board and Chairperson Brian Putt, provide constant support to the work
of ANCAD.
My background is rooted in the community and non-profit sector in the
United Kingdom and New Zealand over the last 25 years, mainly at board
and executive level. I am currently studying for a Master’s in Public Policy
at the University of Auckland. I enjoy developing strong and resilient
organisations, with a focus on long term financial sustainability and
effective strategic development, with practical initiatives that benefit the
community.
ANCAD programmes offer support in a variety of ways. For example, the
Community Accounting programme in Auckland and Aotearoa, professional FIONA BRENNAN
development for staff and board through the Five Good Ideas programme, GENERAL MANAGER
administrative and accounting support for community organisations, fiona@ancad.org.nz
Safer Whanau and Family Violence Prevention Network, are a few of our 0800 426 223
current initiatives. (0800 4ANCAD)
Thanks to the support of our local board and Auckland Council we have
recently had the opportunity to carry out a programme of community
meetings to assess and strengthen community readiness and resilience in
our local areas, to respond to various hazards and emergencies. One of
the objectives is to develop and maintain local community plans which
identify local support and assets which may be utilised in specific hazards
or local emergencies. We are grateful for the expert advice of Auckland
Emergency Management who have conducted several workshops. Don’t
miss the Cyclone Scenario workshop taking place at the Mary Thomas
Centre on Thursday 3rd June.
We are delighted to receive our Living Wage accreditation for another
year and MSD level four social sector accreditation. Massey University
Business School recently received international accreditation with AACSB
International under the innovation category for its partnership with ANCAD
via our Auckland Community Accounting programme. AACSB provides
quality assurance and accreditation to business schools worldwide.
It is wonderful to see so many events and workshops highlighted in this
month’s Community Connections. Please do continue to share your events
and activities with us. We love hearing from you.
I look forward to meeting more of our community partners and stakeholders
over the coming weeks and keeping you informed of our activities and
developments.
