stand under ICLEI South Asia UCP project and it is inaugurated by Deputy CM,
   Tamilnadu

Benefits: reliable power back up, energy savings, reduction in emissions

Experience and Training on PV Wind Hybrid system - maintaining and monitoring
the system provides first hand experience of engineers of Coimbatore Municipal
Corporation and helped them to promote large scale use of such projects in other
   areas of the city

It is proposed now to expand this hybrid system to entire bus stand with ICLEI

BOREWELL ENERGY AUDIT

There are 764 bore wells in entire corporation area
Huge energy consumption on bore wells operation
ICLEI South Asia prepared a energy audit report under UCP for 18 borewells in ward 27
 & 28

 That includes:
The Present Status of the Tubewells
Review & analysis of the Energy Bills
Measuring the actual Power absorbed and water output
Assessing the overall performance of the Tubewells
Suggestions and recommendations to improve the energy efficiency and/or
effectiveness of the Tubewell/s with conceptual cost, benefit and simple payback
 projections

Energy audit report recommended proposals to achieve 30% energy saving
ICLEI South implemented the energy audit recommendations under UCP project to
achieve the 30% energy savings
The recommendations is now implemented in all 18 borewells
It is proposed to carry out the energy audit to the remaining borewells in the CMC

ENERGY POLICY

Climate change is one of the biggest challenges facing the earth, and cities in

particular

The city corporation recognizes these issues and proposes to take action keeping in

mind the long term vision of helping Coimbatore to ‘achieve improved service levels

and better quality of life for the citizens of Coimbatore’

Energy Policy prepared under UCP to develop city level reform actions and

policies for making the city a clean and efficient city

Energy Policy Committee formed to generate city level energy policy under

UCP
The Coimbatore Integrated Energy Policy 2010 intends to

Outline methods to enable the city to grow in a sustainable and efficient manner

Enable CMC to identify priority areas for energy efficiency programs and renewable

energy adoption

Be an overarching framework within which different sectors, such as industry, commerce

and institutions, can formulate specific strategies for energy efficiency, renewable energy

and emissions reductions

Follow the provisions laid out in the National Action Plan for Climate Change (NAPCC)

contribute towards the nation’s goals of reducing GHG emissions and energy consumption

Put in a place a framework to ensure that future development takes places within a

larger vision of the city’s energy goals
ONGOING PROJECTS UNDER UCP

Wind potential study proposed under UCP and the study is under process

Solar power systems proposed under UCP for

         - Fish market

         - Flower market

         - Nanjundapuram Crematorium

Solar City Programme sanctioned by MNRE
CITYWIDE POTENTIAL

•% reduction in emissions possible over a ten year cycle:
15.21% from 2008 levels
•IF UCP measures are replicated citywide
•CMC initiatives and solar city master plan are key
activities to help achieve the goal
•Awareness raising and community involvement is also
an important tool
