REGISTER FOR YOUR AUDITION HERE! Strengthen your audition skills in THE ART OF AUDITIONING WORKSHOP! Click the image below for details and to register: Continue reading for information about Auditions and Callbacks! Auditions and Callbacks All actors must audition in order to participate in our 6th-12th grade productions. Actors will audition for the Directors of both productions at the same time, and they will determine the proper place for each of you! We have created enough roles for all who wish to audition. However, if a performer’s schedule or other extenuating circumstances limit their availability, we will reach out to have a conversation about if placement is possible in the fall/winter productions. We are happy and willing to work with conflicts as long as we know about them in advance! If a number of new conflicts arise once casting has occurred, the Director reserves the right to adjust roles as needed. 7
Audition Details Auditions will be held at Wolf Performing Arts Center on Monday, September 12th & Tuesday, September 13th from 6:30-9:00pm. Audition time slots are an hour long; each performer will sing individually for the Directors and then will learn a dance with a small group. NOTE: Since there is no formal monologue at the initial audition, it is really important that we see acting choices in the performance of your song. Callback Details Dance call backs will be held on Thursday, September 15th from 5:00-6:00PM. Acting & singing callbacks will be held on Thursday, September 15th from 6:15-9:00pm and Saturday, September 17th from 11-1PM, if needed. If you are needed for a callback, we will notify you via email during the day on Wednesday, September 14th. Not every actor will be needed at callbacks. However, this does not mean you have not been cast in a production. It simply means we saw everything we needed to at the first auditions! Casting and Rehearsal Information Casting at Wolf PAC is based on three main criteria: talent, commitment, and availability. Once the production staff has had the chance to assess the criteria for every actor who auditions, we will assign roles based on what is the best fit for the actor and the overall production. *Take a peek at our performance philosophy for more information about auditions & casting here.* Cast lists will be sent out via email no later than Sunday, September 18th. Please keep in mind that Wolf PAC offers classes and private lessons throughout the year. Regardless of casting, we encourage you to register for these, thus strengthening your skills as a performer. Audition Material For your auditions for Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical and Urinetown the Musical, choose and prepare one of the vocal selections from the options below. A few noteworthy hints and helpful ideas: ● When choosing audition material, pick the one that most excites you and shows off the best of your performance abilities. All song choices are suited for any gender. Casting in general will be gender flexible! ● Remember, you will audition for all directors at the same time. You may be asked to sing an additional song at your preliminary audition, so please make sure you have listened to all of the options at least once. ● Since there is no monologue to prepare for your initial audition, infusing acting into your song choice is crucial. Decide what the song means, who the character is, etc. and add some personality to the song. ● You may be asked to make some changes/adjustments to your song after you perform it once. It means the Directors are excited to see what else you can do since you are already stellar! Song Options: All songs (vocal tracks AND sheet music) can be found in a Google Drive Folder by clicking here! From Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical: Naughty Just because you find that life’s not fair It doesn’t mean that you just have to grin and bear it If you always take it on the chin and wear it You might as well be saying you think that it’s OK And that’s not right. And if it’s not right. You have to put it right! But, nobody else is gonna put it right for you, Nobody but me is gonna change my story Sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty! Loud What you know matters less Than the volume with which you don’t knows expressed Content has never been less important, so… you have to be… Loud! Girl you gotta learn to stand up and stick out from the crowd A little less flat, a lot more heel! A little less fact, a lot more feel! A little less brains, a lot more hair! A little less head, a lot more derriere! 9
This Little Girl But this little girl, this miracle, She seems not to know that she’s special at all. And what sort of teacher, would I be. If I let this little girl fall. I can see this little girl needs Somebody strong to fight by her side! Instead she’s found me, pathetic little me And another door closes, and Jenny’s outside! The Hammer As I stepped up to the circle, did I change my plan? As I chalked up my palms, did I wave my hands? As I started my spin did I look at the view? Did I drift off and dream for a minute or two? Do you think I faltered or amended my rotation? Do you think I altered my intended elevation? As the hammer took off, did I change my grunt from the grunt I had practiced for many a month? Not a jot! Not a dot did I stray from the plot. Not a detail of my throw was adjusted or forgotten Not even when the hammer left my hands and sailed high up, up above the stands Did I let myself go? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no! From Urinetown the Musical: Tell Her I Love Her Tell her I love her, Tell her I’ll always be with her, And I will see her in a better place, where hope is always new Ours was a short time, Ours was a love that never bloomed, Yet in that love there lives a brand new hope that’s calling out to you. Urinetown Better hope your pennies add up to the fee. We can’t have you peeing for free. If you do, we’ll catch you. We, we never fail, And we never bother with jail. You’ll get Urinetown, 10
Off you’ll go to Urinetown! Away with you to Urinetown! You won’t need bail. What Is Urinetown? What is Urinetown? Urinetown’s the end! Swift and brutal punishment, no need now to pretend! The trap door’s sprung and then you’re hung and when they cut you down, They’ll box you up and ship you out and call it Urinetown! They’ll box you up and ship you out and call it Urinetown, town, town town, town! It’s A Privilege to Pee You think you’ve got some kind of right! You think you’ll come in here and go for free! Only thing you’ll get is no for free! I’m a bus’ness gal, you see! I sell the privilege to pee! The good Lord made us so we’d piss each day, until we piss away! 11
