WOMEN’S ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS
Purpose
● To provide a national level competitive opportunity for developing athletes.
● Rank participants at the national level and declare champions in:
o JO Level 9 (11-13) and JO Level 10 (12-15) & (16+): Team, All-
Around, and Apparatus
o Novice, Junior and Senior: All-Around and Apparatus.
● Rank athletes are part of the system to have access to:
o Sport Canada Athlete Assistance Program – Carding
o National Team and Espoir Status
o Selection to major international events
Age eligibility for JO categories at the 2019 Canadian Championships:
JO 9 (11-13) 2006, 2007, 2008
JO 10 (12-15) 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007
JO 10 (16+) 2003 and older
Format for JO 9 & JO 10 competition
Day 1: Team final
Day 2: All-Around and Apparatus Final (maximum of 20 athletes)
Format of Novice, Junior and Senior competition
Day 1: All-Around
Day 2: All-Around
(AA and AF ranking will be determined according to the cumulative results of Day
1 and Day 2. Junior and Senior: only athletes that have competed two vaults on
day 1 and day 2 will be eligible for vault awards following Day 2).
COACHES
All registered coaches must be certified NCCP 3 or have obtained an exemption
in writing from the Men’s/Women’s Program Manager. A coach who is
employed on a full-time basis by an organization based outside Canada is
exempted from this requirement.
All coaches, support staff (head of delegation, chef de mission, team manager, and
chaperone) and integrated support team (IST) who will participate in GymCan
national competitions must have completed the following requirements. Failure to
do so will result in a withholding of your accreditation and you will be denied
access to the field of play, competition and training venues.

If you have already submitted proof of completion for Respect in Sport,
TrueSport Clean and Making Headway, you do not need to submit them again.
To submit an updated Enhanced Background Check (valid within 12 months of
competition date), please submit it to vdesjardins@gymcan.org.

**Note #1 is a new requirement for 2019 Championships**
#1 – Declaration of Number of Individuals requiring residence is required to
guarantee accommodation space. Only expected numbers, names are not required.
Please provide to Kim Hill at championships@ottawagymnasticscentre.ca by 4pm
Eastern on April 15, 2019.
#2 – The completed excel registration spreadsheet is submitted electronically to
events@gymcan.org AND to championships@ottawagymnasticscentre.ca by the
set deadline.
#3 – 100% payment of the registration and GymCan fee are RECEIVED at the
GymCan office by the set deadline.

#6 – Each coach, support staff, judge and IST have submitted their risk
management requirements to GymCan.
Definition of late provincial entry penalty
A provincial/territorial federation/association will be charged the late provincial
entry penalty if the above-mentioned checklist is not fulfilled by the set deadline.
Definition of late individual entry penalty
A provincial/territorial federation/association will be charged the late individual
entry penalty if a delegate is registered between the set registration deadline and the
late registration deadline.
Note – No entries will be accepted after the late registration deadline unless written
approval is given by Gymnastics Canada’s Artistic Program Managers.
There is no late individual entry penalty for substitutions.
Refund policy
Written request for a refund can be made to events@gymcan.org until May 6, 2019.
After this date, there will be NO reimbursement of the registration fees (injuries
included).
Written request for a meals and accommodation refund can be made to
championships@ottawagymnasticscentre.ca until April 29, 2019 at 4pm Eastern.
After this date, there will be NO reimbursement of the meals and accommodation
costs (injuries included).
JUDGES All judges MUST stay at the designated residence:
Carleton University Residence
GymCan will manage the accommodations for ALL judges. The provinces must
register their judges using the registration form, as per years’ past. GymCan will
then make reservations for all judges based on registrations received by provinces.
Meals will be served by the organizing committee at the competition venue for
judges.

PROTOCOL The opening ceremony will take place on Friday May 24 at TBD. Each province
will have to provide a flagbearer that will take part in the opening ceremony.

Dress code
Athletes: Competitive uniform
Additional WAG dress code
The P/T association is responsible for setting the policy or uniforms and
competition attire for their delegations attending Canadian Championships so long
as these conform to the regulations governing the sport of gymnastics as set by FIG.
It is recommended for Canadian Championships that P/T associations require all
delegates, including National Team athletes and coaches, to wear the P/T uniforms
and competition clothing. An exception is to be made for current National Team
athletes and coaches who must wear National Team leotards (athletes) and
uniforms (coaches only) on Day 2 at Canadian Championships or Elite Canada.
WAG FLOOR MUSIC Each coach is responsible for uploading their music to Dropbox using the following

LOCAL Transportation from Ottawa International Airport to the Carleton University
TRANSPORTATION Residence and return will ONLY be provided on the official arrival (May 21) and
the official departure (May 27) days at block time only (these will be confirmed
after receiving flight information). Provinces will be responsible for their own
transportation if they are arriving or departing on alternation date or times. All
flight information MUST be received by May 6, 2019 to be eligible for airport
transportation by the organizing committee. Additional details and contacts for
local transportation companies (should they be required) will be provided later.

ACCOMMODATIONS Two people per room
All Championship Delegates will be housed and are required to stay on site at
Carleton University at a cost of $125 per person, per day including 3 meals per day.
Individuals may pay a Housing exemption fee of $125 and be authorized by the
organizing committee and the province/territory for not staying on campus at
Carleton University or they will not be eligible to participate at the 2019 Canadian
Championships in Artistic Gymnastics.

Dietary Restrictions/Allergies must be indicated with the registration forms (by the
deadline) to ensure appropriate preparations.
ACCREDITATION The GymCan accreditation protocol will apply. The system consists of colour
coded categories. GymCan reserves the right to take away any accreditation if the
rules are not followed.
Accreditation for provinces will be distributed to chefs during the first chefs
meeting. The accreditation must be worn to access the venue, the competitive and
training areas and the hosting areas.
SOCIAL/BANQUET SOCIAL
There will be one social event during the week for the coaches, judges, and support
staff. The details of this event will be available at the start of the championships.
ATHLETE BANQUET
The athlete banquet will be held Sunday May 26th after competition. The cost per
athlete will be $25. Each P/TO will be required to provide the Name and Contact
details of the individual responsible for the supervision of the athletes during the
banquet. More details to follow.
